On The Radar: Banker Stripes!

Banker Stripes
On The Radar: Banker Stripes in For Summer!

This spring and summer, work wear has just gotten a serious fashion girl re-vamp! Not only are banker stripes still being used in business attire, the pattern has been brought into the fashion world as a S/S staple. They are feminine in so many ways, but still accomplish that boyish feel that every classy lady strives for. Personally, banker stripes have always been a staple in my family…we live by the classic Ralph Lauren meets J. Crew uniform throughout the duration of our time at our cottage. I mean, what goes better than a banker striped button-down with a pair of denim cutoffs and worn out Sperrys? I say nothing.

Here are a couple of ways one of my favourite summer trends is being worked into everyday wear!

This Zara asymmetrical top is a little less summery, but would be perfect for a night out on the town.

The Cartagena Top from Faithfull looks amazing the way that it’s styled, with a denim skirt and pair of cute loafers.

Or, if you’re not into the off the shoulder trend, here’s a pretty little Faithfull sundress for a day on the beach.

I recently bought a dress similar to this one and I’m absolutely loving it! It’s really versatile, so you can dress it up for an occasion or dress it down for a casual day running errands!

A cool retro-style sundress with goldenrod stripes will help you to look fashionable as you lounge in the sun.

I’m currently living in this striped ‘his’ shirt but in the classic blue colour! It’s perfect used as a tunic, a coverup or a shirt with cutoffs underneath!

LOVE these culottes for a simple yet put together everyday look. I tried these on the other day and they are so flattering it’s ridiculous!!!

Finally, a beachy rectangle scarf to keep you warm on those chilly summer nights!

Hope you’re all gearing up for a wonderful summer!

It Takes a Village

(Jacket: Mackage Florica Jacket | Dress: Wilfred Beaune Dress | Shoes: Steve Madden Irene Sandals | Bag: Michael Kors ‘Cindy’ | Sunnies: ‘Charlie’ Metal Round)

“It Takes a Village” is nothing but true when it comes to graduation, especially when it comes down to finding the perfect dress for your day of celebration. Quite literally (okay not literally, dad), it took about a small village to find the dress that I had my eye on for months.

I’m one of those people that searches far in advance for the perfect dress for any occasion. Graduation was no different, and let me tell you, I had quite the search. From the very beginning I had my eye on this flowy dress from Artizia in a kind of dark rose colour (I don’t really know if that describes the colour accurately, but you get the jist). My parents went searching for the dress in all of the Calgary stores while my friends and I searched online and in stores across Ontario. Much to my dismay, the customer service representatives that we spoke to informed us that the dress was unavailable until late June/mid July store-wide. I was disappointed, but was ready to move on and find another dress that I would love equally as much. The dress was unavailable, moving on, end of story.

Then one day while shopping downtown Toronto I decided to pop into the Aritzia store to do some window shopping (I was fooling myself if I thought I would leave empty handed…I mean really…who leaves Aritzia empty handed!). I FOUND THE DRESS! THE DRESS…after all the searching and running around I had found it in my size but in the black version. Turns out I ended up liking the black version WAY more than the original colour that I had lusted over.

The Aritzia Beaune Dress has some beautiful pleats that really make the dress. You can see in the previous photo, that the pleats give the dress some really nice movement and a feminine feel. You end up feeling sort of like a princess because of the flowy material, but you don’t end up looking like a cake topper. Additionally, it’s a wrap dress which means you can adjust it to how you feel (in other words, you can eat as much as you want and still be able to fit into the dress…can someone say winner?). It’s definitely a piece that you can get a tonne of wear out of during the summer months due to its versatile feel. Whether it be a birthday event, a wedding or even just a summer cocktail event, the Beaune Dress will be your best friend!!! As for the Irene sandals, every Queen’s gal and her mother has these shoes, but for good reason — they are comfortable, flattering and the different hues make for a fun pop of colour!!

In honour of me finding the perfect dress for grad and the most flattering sandals to accompany it, here’s a long overdue outfit of the day featuring some summer classics that will be the stars of the show this summer.

I hope that all of your convocations have been wonderful and inspiring!!!

Weekly Roundup (After a Long Drawn Out Absence)

Sorry about the absence — I’m just getting back into it after a busy time of exams, a birthday, moving and job hunts. I swear, I’ve said so many times that I’m basically a nomad at this point, moving my entire life from one place to the next.

Without further ado, here are a few fun links from around the web!

A really cool map that shows us what each country’s favourite book is!

For all of those who bought Pemberton tickets and can’t get a refund! WayHome is letting you trade your ticket in for a GA WayHome ticket until June 30th! Find out more info here.

Metallic “lip toppers” are SUPER in right now! Would you try the look out? Here are two ones that I really like: BITE’s Champagne Pearl and Jouer’s Skinny Dip.

Interesting perspective on the themes behind Big Little Lies, maybe worth a read!

My favourite personality test, if you want to give it a go! I’m an ESFJ when I used to be an ENFJ, meaning I have more of a sensing personality vs. intuitive.

A This Is Us wedding shoot! Literally thought that it was Milo and Mandy.

The blouse that just about EVERY beauty blogger owns right now.

So accurate for anyone that loves snacking! I laughed out loud. The grape, cracker and pint of ice cream ones are too funny.

This interview on a couple’s love story is so cute and honest. My favourite part was: Interviewer: “were you O-N on or did it take a minute?” Taylor to Sam/Interviewer: “I think it took a minute — wait were you on?”

Hope you all have a great long weekend!

Currently Coveting!

It’s getting to our favourite time of year here in Canada, the much needed and highly anticipated break to give us all a little bit of a breather. While many are heading off on grad trip and far away places in Europe, my best friend and I are headed down south to Florida for a week and we couldn’t be more excited (we’ve been counting down for weeks now)! However, it’s a little bit of a different feel this time around as we realize that this break marks the half way mark of our LAST undergraduate semester ever. Crazy, right?!

Well, in preparation for the break I am providing you with some of the things that have been on my radar lately.

This or this fun beach cover-up.

A plunging scoopback one-piece bather! I especially love the red one!

A really simple seersucker ruffle bikini!

Obsessed with this “round fleck” style for a new pair of sunnies! Also loving this new updated version of Ray Ban’s clubmaster style sunnies!

Somehow I destroyed my runners and I’m now in the market for a new pair. Luckily I’m heading down to Florida so am hoping to score a pair down there, but recently I’ve been eyeing the Ultra Boosts! Still determining if I can switch my loyalty though.

This dress reminds me of something that Julie Delpy would wear in Before Sunrise!

I had the “gimme some lip” set from Sephora and LOVED it. They recently came out with a nude set that I’ve been dying to try!

I’ve always wanted a wishbone necklace and this dainty little silver one is adorable!

These sandals are super simple and adorable! I love this kind of style because it’s easy to dress up or down, and the blush is such a nice change of pace! I also adore these tassel sandals, although they are a bit pricey!

Lilly Pulitzer + S’well? Sign me up! You have to go scouting for these new S’well bottles, but here’s some more information here. The collection is so pretty and summery, it almost transports you forward a couple of months!

On a more winterized note, these winter boots are lovely! Super sleek looking but definitely functional; I find it so hard to score a fashionable pair of winter boots that doesn’t make you look like you’re wearing blocks on your feet. Also into these ones.

Hope you enjoy!

Diptyque’s Valentines Day Launch – Eau Rose

For ages, I’ve been searching for a new sophisticated scent to bring into my everyday rotation. Now I would have to say that my signature scent is Burberry Brit, a unique blend of pear and lime top notes which are then enveloped by vanilla, amber and tonka bean. It’s been my everyday winter scent for years now and is one of my favourites for those sultry nights out on the town. Although I love the scent, I’ve always wanted one of those scents that just screams Parisian chic. Not in a Chanel no. 5 kind of way, but more in an “I’m a Parisian woman who strolls along the beaches of Juan les Pins on the reg” kind of way.

When I received Folle de Joie years ago in a Birchbox I instantly fell in love. It was THAT scent that I’d been looking for all of these years. However, for some reason I could never bring myself to splurge on it despite it’s antique Parisian look and floral notes. Much to my dismay Joie ended up discontinuing the scent. I thought to myself, on to another three year journey to find that kind of scent again.

During reading week I walked into Holt Renfew to have a little look around and  found myself in the perfume section. I smelt all of the Jo Malone scents to find that I loved a couple, but found that as lovely as they were, they weren’t the floral Parisian scent that I’d been looking for forever. On a whim I explored the Diptyque booth to find that they had recently collaborated with Antoinette Poisson, a creator and restorer of domino paper in creating a Valentine’s Day collection. The collection spotlights two scents in both candle, room spray, solid perfume and Eau de Toilette form: Eau Dominotée and Eau Rose.

I proceeded to smell both and LOVED them. Finally, I had found the scents that checked every box for me in that Parisian scent category. Many sniffs and coffee beans later, I decided on the Eau Rose scent which has notes of Rose Damascena, Rose Centifolia, Lychee, Ambroxan and finished with notes of honey and cedar. To be honest, you can’t really pick up on the Lychee and I’m not sure what Ambroxan is (if anyone knows, let me know!). It’s a wonderful scent that’s not too rosey but floral enough to really capture that Parisian woman feel. The beautiful design of the box (which was handpainted!) is just a plus.

Now if you are curious about the Eau Dominotée Eau de Toilette, it’s scented with rose, foliage and hints of patchouli to create a sophisticated and multi-purpose scent. Protip: you can put a capful of the scent into your laundry to make your laundry smell sophisticated and to transport you right to Paris! I think it’s so cool that this scent is multi-purpose.
