We all know it’s extremely difficult to stay motivated and inspired during the winter months. Luckily enough, we are getting to that point where the weather is getting warmer and everyone is a little bit more chipper. But with this transition, comes the dreaded slushy and mucky conditions that everyone fears as they gear up for spring and summer. Here are some ways to stay inspired (and feel fresh) in these yucky, slightly gloomy, months!
1. Go for a walk!
Although the weather is warming, which means that the ice is melting and the sidewalks are muddy, getting outside for a walk can really get your mind turning. Add a friend, and you’ll be instantly happier.
2. Have coffee/get drinks with friends!
This is one of my all time favourites. Whenever I’m in a funk, I always go to my friends and family – they instantly make everything better! A little conversation over coffee or drinks with your best girlfriends never hurt anybody!
3. Stay busy!
It sounds contradictory, but when I’m more busy, I tend to feel more inspired. I think this is primarily because when you’re busy, you feel like you can accomplish almost anything. Staying busy means you’ll likely be using the rest of your free time to the best of your advantage.
4. Wake up early!
I always find that I’m more productive (and more inspired) if I start the day off on a good pace, particularly if I get up early. You not only get more done (because you have just as many hours in a day as Beyoncé), but you also have more time to do things that you enjoy!
5. Read a book!
Whether or not you’re an avid reader, I always suggest picking up something from a bookstore that gets your mind going. One of my favourites right now is the book, Love Does by Bob Goff. It’s short and sweet, and is filled with short stories that demonstrate how love “does”, and does not sit idly. I find it so inspiring, that Goff sees so much joy and potential in the little bits of his life. The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan is also one of my absolute favourites, as it too consists of stories that are short and sweet, yet inspirational. It teaches you a lot about treasuring the smallest of moments.
6. Have a pamper night!
Pamper nights always make me feel inspired, as I often feel more beautiful in my skin and much more relaxed! It’s important for the mind and the body to have these nights, especially if you are often bogged down with work and have little time for yourself.
7. Create a dream board!
These are always fun little ways to stay inspired, as you curate them yourself according to your interests. I find that these do the trick when I’m stuck in a creative rut, as they help me to get my mind back on track and stay focused on what I enjoy most! Whether it be fashion, décor, food, or drink, there is always something on Pinterest to get you inspired!
8. Peruse a bookstore!
Even if you don’t love to read, there are so many books out there for a wide range of interests and people from different backgrounds. Whether you are an avid reader or only crack a book open every once in a while, you will enjoy spending time here. It is one of my favourite things to do. Whenever I need some rest and relaxation, I will drive to my nearest Chapters and spend hours looking at the stacks with a Starbucks in hand. There is nothing better than the smell of new books and a fresh coffee!
9. End your day on a high note!
Okay, this one is a little bit abstract, but hang tight. It is one of my favourite things to do after a long day. It’s a tradition that I used to have with someone that means so much to me, that I can’t help but enjoy carrying it on to this day. At the end of every day, the two of us would share with each other one new or interesting thing that we learned that day. Then we would have a discussion about each one, and why it inspired or interested us. It is surprisingly fun, and you learn an additional new thing every day! You also are able to gain more insight into the person that you are sharing these with, which allows you to understand them on a more intimate, emotional level. You can do it with a SO, family member, or even with your best friend!
I hope that this list helps you to stay inspired, as it does me! I’d love to hear about what inspires you most!
