So recently I came across an interesting recipe (I guess one would call it this) as I was perusing Joanna’s blog.
BERRY FLAVOURED MILK.
Remember when you were a kid and couldn’t wait to have a nice cold chocolate or strawberry milk? Man, those were the days..now it’s just a nice glass of wine or cold pint of beer. Summer has a way of making people nostalgic, so why don’t you add to that trip down memory lane by making a homemade glass of blueberry, strawberry, or raspberry flavoured milk?! Genius I tell you, genius…and I don’t even like milk. They are also such pretty pastel colours!
1 1/2 cups chopped strawberries or blueberries
3 to 6 tbsp mild honey, agave or maple syrup
1 tbsp water
Splash of vanilla extract (optional)
Milk of choice
Combine your choice of strawberries or blueberries, 3 tablespoons sweetener and water in a small saucepan. Cook over medium-high heat until boiling, then reduce to a simmer. Cook until the berries are soft and the juices have thickened, about 10-15 minutes.
Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve and press on the solids to remove as much syrup as possible. Stir in the vanilla extract, and add more sweetener if desired. Cool completely then chill thoroughly.
Stir 1/4 cup fruit mixture with 1 cup milk and serve.
